There are a number of interesting cultural and historic sites nearby (e.g. Windsor Castle and Runnymede). Central London offers a wealth of entertainment, including numerous museums (many are free entry).

Windsor (15 minutes by train)

🏰 Windsor Castle: official residence of the king.
🌲 Windsor Great Park: 5,000 acres of parkland and gardens with castle views and ornamental ruins.
🏛️ Windsor Town: historic town with independent shops and restaurants.

Historical & Cultural Sites

🏛️ Runnymede & Magna Carta Monument: birthplace of modern democracy where Magna Carta was sealed in 1215.
🏎️ Brooklands Museum: birthplace of British motorsport and aviation with original 1907 racing circuit.

Theme Parks & Family Attractions

🎢 Thorpe Park: theme park with rollercoasters (book online for cheaper prices).
🎠 Legoland Windsor: theme park, more genteel and family-oriented than Thorpe Park.

London

🚆 Trains every 30 minutes until midnight(ish), 40-minutes to London Waterloo, £18 return.

South Bank Cultural Quarter

A short walk from Waterloo station.

Theatres, Concert Halls, Cinemas

Covent Garden Area

An area famous for shopping, restaurants, and theatres, this is only a 15-minute walk across the Thames (by bridge!) from Waterloo station.

🤹 Covent Garden Market & Street Performers: craft stalls, street entertainment, restaurants and pubs.

Museums & Galleries

Usually free admission (except to special exhibitions).
